A rubber stamp is basically a hand-held device that is used for inking and imprinting a message or design on a surface. I love my rubber stamp collection, they can be used in so many different ways and using so many different techniques. They really are worth every penny I have paid for them.

Having a good knowledge of how to use and store stamps I thought it might be helpful if I put together some of the information and handy tips I have picked up.

•  Rubber stamps range in price. Generally the larger or more detailed the more expensive.
• When making a purchase consider how many times you are likely to use it so you are not wasting your money. It is worth remembering you can use parts of the image as well as the whole thing by covering the unwanted parts with masking tape.
• Large images can be stamped several times and used to create decoupage images.
• If using stamps to create decoupage take care not to cut the embossed imaged, this can cause the embossing powder to flake off removing part of the image.
• I find the stamps that are mounted on a clear block are great for beginners as you can see exactly where you are stamping leaving less room for error.
• Always lay you stamp flat and take the ink pad to it rather than pushing the stamp into the ink pad, this will ensure the entire design on the stamp is evenly covered in the ink.
• Once you have used the stamp it is important to clean the stamp and remove the entire ink residue.
• Depending on the type of ink you have used for your cards  it may not be necessary to use expensive ink removers. I find an alcohol free baby wipe works just as well as some of the chemical solutions you can buy from craft shops.
• Always store your ink pads level and when they begin to run out store them upside down. This will prevent uneven ink distribution and keep the ink on the top of the pad ready for its next use.
• Use ink that is acid free and fade resistant to keep your projects looking bright and effective.

 Rubber stamps come is all shapes and sizes and designs. The larger patterned stamps are fantastic for creating backgrounds.
