You don’t need huge amounts of time and money to get into card making, it can be as simple or as complex as you desire but trust me once you have started making cards you will be hooked.
When I had my first idea about what card I wanted to make I started with a few basic tools, often you can use items from your home that are just sitting around.
The basic items you need to start any project are the following:
Scissors – It is very important to have a good quality pair of scissors. This will avoid tatty edges to your paper and make life a lot easier when you are cutting shapes out of your paper and card.
Metal Ruler and Craft Knife – it is important to always work on a clean surface and a cutting mat is perfect for this as you can also use your craft knife without having to worry about damaging your table or area of work. Good cutting tools are very important
Peel Off Stickers – peel off stickers can be used to decorate or add wording to your craft projects.
Double Sided Tape – I use double sided tape all the time. It is perfect for attaching most things to your cards. Heavier objects may require additional support.
Papers - You will need a variety of themed papers to use as backgrounds and decoration for your designs.
Once you become more confident and want to expand, you can always introduce additional supplies and items to your craft box.
If you are making cards with children and using an ink pad always make sure that the ink is washable it is surprising how much children would rather ink their hands and faces rather than using it for their cards.
Card making really is a wonderful past time that all the family can enjoy. Sending and receiving homemade personal cards will bring you joy and a sense of achievement.
