New Home Card

new home cardThis new home card gives a 3d effect due to the curtains and window frame which sit prominent on the card. This new home card is not particularly difficult to make, but it is quite involved and intricate, so not the quickest greeting card to make.

folding a sheet of white cardBegin making your new home card by folding an A4 sheet of white card in half. I always use a bone tool and score board, but if you do not have one simply fold the card in half and press the folded edge down firmly.

making a new home cardDraw a grid on a separate piece of white card-stock. I have used pen here just to show you but you should use pencil so that it can be rubbed out. The outside grid measurements are 6.5cm x 10.5cm.

window made from cardUse a scalpel and metal edge ruler to cut the squares for the windows inside the grid to the same size. This will form your window for your new home card.

garden windowYou now need to find a garden picture to place behind your window. You can cut this from a magazine, or as I have done here, find a picture on the internet and print it. You need to make sure the picture can be trimmed down to the same size as the window frame and still look nice once it has been placed behind it.

garden window viewPlace 3d foam along the inside of the window, and attach it to the garden picture. You may need to cut your 3d foam to fit the small panels of window.

making a new home cardAttach the window to the top of the card using double sided tape. Place a border peel off sticker along the top of the window.

folding paperNext, cut two strips of scrapbook paper approximately 15x10cm, you may want to adjust this if you have made a bigger window or if your scrapbook paper is really thick.

Fold the scrapbook paper as you would if you were making a fan. Make sure the folds are just under 1cm wide. Aim for 5mm if you can so that when they are made into the curtains they do not stick out too much from the card which in turn will make it hard to fit in an envelope.

curtains made from cardOnce you have folded both strips of paper, place two small bows around the ‘curtains’. You can also run the same peel off across the top of the curtains to match the window.

windowAttach the curtains to the window using an extra strong double sided tape. It is quite tricky so I would recommend placing a bit of tape on the back of the bow and a strip down the furthest panel of the window.

new home wording for a cardMat and layer some wording for your new home card . Here I have used a verse that I printed from the Internet. You could also just put the words ‘ New Home’ or ‘Good luck In Your New Home’ if you prefer. Mount the wording onto the same scrapbook paper that you have used for the curtains, and the same piece you have used to cover the bottom of the card.

new home wordingNext, cover the bottom section of the card with patterned paper (just below the curtains) and place a border peel off along the top.

Use 3d foam to attach the wording to the middle of the section you have just covered with patterned paper.

new home handmade cardThis handmade new home card can easily be changed to suit a male or female by changing the colours to suit.
