This homemade greeting card design has a diamond shape on the front making it different to the traditional shape of a greeting card. It is not too difficult to make and most card makers should not have any problem with this cards alternative design.
Begin making this birthday greeting card by folding a sheet of A4 white card in half through the centre.
From the top of the card measure 10.5cm ( 4 ¼ inches) and create another fold.
From the centre of the fold you have just created measure 3.5cm ( 1.4 inches) down and mark a spot with a pencil.
From the top of the card measure 18cm (7inches) and mark with a pencil. You will need to do this on both sides of the card.
Next use a pencil and ruler to join the dots you have just made.
Then carefully fold along the lines you have just drawn.
When the two lines have been folded, fold the bottom half of the card.
The front of your greeting card should now look like this. Make sure you press down all the folds firmly once you reach this stage.
Select a piece of pink card for card making or paper from your card making supplies and cut it slightly smaller than the diamond on the front of the card.
Use double sided tape to secure this piece of card in place.
Find a piece of patterned scrapbook paper and once again cut it slightly smaller than the pink piece of card you have just attached to the diamond. Doing this gives a mat and layered effect.
Select a flower embellishment or if you have time and the materials it is always nice to make your own embellishments.
Mount the embellishment onto green card leaving a small border.
Place the embellishment in the centre of the diamond using double sided tape or 3d foam pads if you want it be more prominient.
Cover the bottom section of the greeting card with some matching patterned paper using double sided tape. When purchasing scrapbook kits you normally have a pad of papers that correspond really well together, this is a good time to use these papers.
Rubber stamp the happy birthday message onto a piece of white card and cut it out using a scalpel and metal edge ruler.
You can also use peel off stickers, epoxy stickers or rub ons if preferred.
Mount the card message onto the same green card that you used to mount the embellishment leaving a 1cm border all the way around.
Place the happy birthday panel at the bottom of that card and if possible add some stickers and a border to finish the card off.
This homemade birthday greeting card has a modern design but with a traditional theme, which I think works really well here.
