Cat Card

Cat cardThis cat card is a perfect card to make for someone that loves cats or for that matter anyone who likes animal greeting cards.

It is quite simple to make, so beginner card makers will not have any problems.

White card stockI decided to make this handmade cat card a square card with a white background.

Decoupage image of cats I had already decided to use a large decoupage image for this cat card so having a smaller card means the card could be made quickly and would need fewer embellishments to decorate it.

I used a bone tool and card folder to fold the A4 card in half, I then took a square envelope and measured the card slightly smaller so that it would fit inside. The decoupage image is of two cats sitting in a basket. Decoupage is layers of the same image being built up using 3d foam to give a prominent or 3d effect. It is a good idea to have really sharp scissors and also a cutting mat and scalpel for the more intricate parts.

Mat and layered decoupage imageOnce the decoupage image has been made up I placed it onto white card to give it a border and make it stand out. This is also known as mat and layering and you can do this as many times as you like using either double sided tape
or 3d foam or a mixture of both

Organza ribbonAs my cat card was quite small I was able to use up some organza ribbon I had in my craft supplies. The ribbon was quite thick so it filled up what space was left. I simply tied the ribbon in a knot and cut the ends at a slight angle. I placed a large sticky dot behind the knot so that it didn’t flap about and helped to secure it in place.

Card topper Because the background of the cat card was white I decided to mount the decoupage image onto gold mirror card before placing it onto the front of the card. This would ensure that the frame did not get lost and the decoupage would stand out. The organza ribbon also had a gold edge to it so this tied in nicely with the border around the decoupage.

Birthday card message For the card message I simply added a peel off sticker that said ‘Birthday wishes’.  It is down to personal choice and of course the occasion the card is for what you write here. You can use rub ons, peel off stickers or even print the wording yourself.

Cat card This cat card is very simple to make and ideal for novice card makers.
