This happy birthday card can be adapted to suit any age group by changing the papers that are used. Furthermore simply by changing the happy birthday wording to Valentines Day it can easily be adapted to make a lovely Valentines Day homemade card
Begin making this card idea by selecting a sheet of A4 card stock from your craft supplies. You need to find the centre of the paper and mark it using pencil. You will need to rub the pencil marks out once the folds have been made so do not press too hard.
Fold the outside edges onto the centre of the card so they meet up where you have drawn the line.
Next cut four strips of scrapbook paper just under an inch thick.
Use double sided tape to attach the strips of card across the top and bottom of the card stock. Make sure they meet in the middle.
Cut a sheet of floral scrapbook paper to fit either side of the card. The scrapbook paper needs to fit between the strips of red at the top and bottom of the card. Use double sided tape to hold the paper in place.
Using the same red scrapbook paper you used for the top and bottom strips of the card cut out two panels to fit in the centre of each side of the card.
You now need to cut a heart for the front of the card. I have used a Fiskars cutter to cut out the heart shape however you can easily trace this shape or use a stencil as a guide.
Cut the heart shape from paper or card that corresponds with the backing paper on the card. Print or stamp the ‘happy birthday wording’ onto some white card stock. Mount the words onto a piece of the red paper that had already been used. You can then attach this to the front of the heart shape using 3d foam pads.
Add any additional embellishments to the front of the card.
Some scrapbook kits come with ready made embellishments that match the papers. This can be really handy for card making because it will save you time hunting around for the right colours and help you with your card making ideas.
Finally, place the heart on the left hand side of the card. Only secure half of the heart to the front of the card so the other half covers the right hand side and the card can still be opened. You should now have a very pretty card idea that can be used simply to say ‘I love you’, a fun birthday card, or especially for Valentines Day. This homemade card is quite simple for any card maker to make.

Keep at it as it’s a wonderful pastime. Sometimes you will get card makers block and just not know what to make which can get very frustrating…believe me!
