Homemade Card: Cupcake

A homemade card ideaGreeting cards with cupcakes really are the ‘In’ thing right now, and what better way to wish someone a happy birthday than to send them a scrummy cupcake themed homemade card.

To make the cupcakes you will need a solid colour card and a patterned paper. I have used bazzill cardstock because it has texture.

bazzill cardstock

Cut out the shapes above from the cardstock you have selected from your craft supplies.

Attach the solid card behind the pattered

Attach the solid card behind the pattered paper using double sided tape.

acid free pen

Use an acid free pen to draw a small cherry on top of the cup cake. I used whispers pens which are a great buy for any card maker. Whispers pens are a water based, non-toxic, and acid free ink. They have a Flexible brush tip on one end which makes it easy to create thick to thin lines and detail tip on the other end is perfect for journaling and fine line drawing.

embellishments for a homemade card

Repeat this process over and over again using different colours and pattered paper. Add a little glitter to the top of the cherry to finish it off.

A4 pink cardstock

Select a sheet of A4 pink cardstock. I have used a pearlescent card for that extra shine.

Fold the card in half using a card folder and bone tool if possible to give a clean crisp edge.

Sakura soufflé pen

On a separate piece of the same colour card and using a white Sakura souffle pen and
draw a line down the centre of the front of your card and a fancy top. This is going to be the cake stand for all those yummy cupcakes.

zig zag ribbon

Place a length of zig zag ribbon across the cake stand making sure you can fit two cup cakes on it.

two cup cakes

Place the first two cup cakes on the front of the card using double sided tape to hold it in place.

making a homemade card

Repeat this process for each layer on the stand, making the ribbon slightly longer each time and adding on and extra cupcake.

white hammered cardstock

Draw the shape of a cake stand on white hammered card and cut it out. Attach it to the bottom of the card using double sided tape. Then make a small bow from thin ribbon and attach this to the top of the cake stand.

Mount onto cardstock

Mount the entire panel onto another sheet of card, this time a lighter pink.

Place the finished panel onto the front of your homemade card.
