This homemade greeting card is for a baby boy. Although the embellishment on the front was purchased from a craft shop, you could easily make something similar using scraps from your card making supplies.
Firstly, select a piece of white card from your card making supplies. If you have it use a hammered card as this will have a slight texture to it, almost like cotton wool which is very appropriate for a baby card.
Fold the card into a square or whatever shape you wish your card to be.
Cover the bottom half of the card in blue and white spotty paper. Secure it in place using double sided tape.
Place a length of white zig zag ribbon across the centre of the card, where the blue spotty paper meets the white card.
I used a hi tack glue to secure the ribbon in place; however a strong thin double sided tape would work just as well.
You then need to select an embellishment for the front of the card. This embellishment was purchased from a craft shop, but could easily be handmade using a bit of ribbon and some buttons. The embellishment will need to be mounted onto the white hammered card used for the base of the card.
You then need to mount your embellishment onto the blue and white polka dot card paper leaving a small border around the edge.
Cut a square the same size as your embellishment from plain blue card stock.
Place one on top of the other to create a star shape and secure it in place using double sided tape.
Place the finished embellishment in the centre of the handmade card using 3d foam so it stands proud of the card.
The card at this stage has no real words of congratulations so you will need to use a printer to print this. Write the word congratulations over and over in a line and print in whatever font you like.
Cut the words into a strip using either a paper trimmer or scalpel and metal edge ruler.
Place the strip of wording along the bottom of the card using double sided tape to hold it in place.
You can either leave the centre of the card plain or make it a bit fancier by stamping the words ‘congratulations’ onto white paper and then mounting the paper onto the blue and white polka dot paper used on the front of the card.
Attach this message to the inside of the card using double sided tape to secure it in place.
If you wanted to make this handmade card for a baby girl simply change the colours to pink!

Thank you so much for posting your cards- they are such a great inspiration! I changed this one up a bit, using the layout, to make a Thomas the Train birthday card for my nephew. Looks great!
