You may be struggling to come up with good handmade card ideas for a new birth. If you are this card is really simple to make and of course you can change the papers and colours so it suitable for a baby girl.

You may have noticed that I have used a 3d decoupage on the front of the card. Understandably you may not have the exact same decoupage; however any decoupage or image that is baby related will work just as well.

I started the handmade card by folding a sheet of A4 white hammered cardstock in half. I then decided to make the card square, so I found an envelope in my card making supplies that I wanted to use and cut the card slightly smaller, so that it would fit neatly inside the square envelope.

If your decoupage or the image you are going to use is long then you may want to make the card a tall or DL size card so that the image will fit on the front nicely.

I used a fiskars circle template to draw and cut out various different size circles.

I used different shades of blue card. Have a rummage in your card making supplies or scrap box, as this is a great opportunity to use up all the left over bits.

Again, if you are adapting the card for a girl then select different shades of pink instead of blue.

The circles were cut out using sharp scissors to leave a crisp edge. The circles were then randomly placed on the front of the card overlapping each other.

I used double sided tape to fix the circles on this handmade card down.

The decoupage I used was quite light in colour so I mounted it onto a dark blue scrapbook paper to give it a solid bold edge. This ensures that the image becomes the focal point of this handmade card idea.

I used double sided tape to adhere the image to the card.

I then placed a length of spotty ribbon across the top of the card. It is important to either hide the ends of the ribbon or use a ribbon that wont fray as this could cause your handmade card to look tatty and unprofessional. A good tip here is to place a small amount of book binding glue on the ends of ribbon to stop them from fraying.

With a separate piece of ribbon I then tied a small bow that I placed in the centre of the ribbon. I used a large sticky dot to secure it in place.

I placed a silver peel off sticker at the bottom of this handmade card that says ‘Congratulations’ it is personal choice what you put here. The baby’s name would make it more personal together with the date of birth.

You may also want to consider different methods of adding wording to for your handmade card ideas. Rub-ons, hand writing and printing the words are becoming increasingly popular.
