Baby Girl Congratulations Card

This congratulations card for a baby girl is quite straight forward to make and if you can find some decoupage paper in blue it can easily be changed to fit in with a baby boy theme.

First of all you will need to select a sheet of A4 white cardstock from your card making supplies and fold it in half. I always use a bone tool to make the fold, however if you do not have one of these in your card making supplies and you are using your hands to press the fold down take care that you do not leave any dirty marks on the card.

I wanted to place a strip of baby themed ribbon down the edge of the card so I placed two strips of really strong double sided tape along the edge.

I found an off cut of pink ribbon in my card making supplies that had a baby theme. You can use any ribbon you want but try to stick to only an inch in width so that it does not take up too much room on your card.

You will then need to put together your decoupage paper image. Always use sharp or better still ‘decoupage scissors’ to cut out all the shapes. The shapes can then be placed on top of each other using 3D foam.

This decoupage paper allows you to pick and choose which parts you wish to decoupage so you can make what ever parts you wish stand out.

Once you have put the decoupage together have a look in your card making supplies for a spare piece of pink card, which you can then mount the decoupage onto. I have left about 1cm around the edge so that it has a nice border.

You will then need to mount it onto the front of your card next to the ribbon leaving a gap the other side to allow you to add some wording.

I used my computer to print off the wording ‘congratulations on the birth of your daughter.’ By doing this I was able to select the font and the font size as well as have it printed onto the same card as the card is made from.

If you do not have access to a computer then you can simply add words using stamps, peel of stickers, rub ons or whatever you have available in your card making supplies.

You will then need to mat and layer your message onto different shades of pink card. Here I have used a light pink then a dark pink. I used double sided tape to hold it in place.

I decided to place the wording on the top right hand corner of the card. I was going to finish the card at this point but then couldn’t help thinking the with space below the wording was bit odd, so I had a look around and found a sheet of wrapping paper that had a baby theme.

I cut out a couple of heart shaped balloons from the wrapping paper and placed them onto the blank space below the wording.

I used a pink pen to draw the string coming from the balloons.

This is a lovely handmade card to make using decoupage paper.
