This is a step by step guide to help you make your own thank you cards is really quite simple to follow. Thank you cards are a lovely way to show someone your appreciation and a handmade thank you card is even better.
I began this card by folding a blank A4 piece of card in half. I used a scoring board and bone tool to fold the card. If you do not have these craft tools in card making supplies then it is possible to use a metal edge ruler and scalpel as long as you are really careful and do not apply too much pressure as you could end up cutting the card instead of scoring it.
I wanted to create a background for the card so I selected a very large patterned wood mounted rubber stamp.
I wanted to give the stamped image a slightly shiny and sparkly look so I decided to use perfect pearls to color the background. Perfect pearls are powder based which you brush over your stamped image to color the impression. Perfect pearls come with a certain type of ink called ‘perfect medium’ this ink is stickier than normal ink so that the powder sticks to it with ease.
Apply the ink to the rubber stamps pattern.
Then press the rubber stamp firmly onto your card using the palms of your hands. You may have to do this more than once depending on your rubber stamps size in order to cover the entire card base.
You then need to decide which perfect pearls you want to use. The great thing about these is they all work well together. You can even mix them up to create a totally different color.
Using the brush provided brush some of the dust over the stamped area. The powders will adhere to the ink so you must continue to brush until the excess powder is removed. You may want to keep a separate pot handy to store any excess powder that can be saved and reused.
It is down to personal taste which colors you use, as you can see here I have used a mixture of everything I have.
Because the over all color is a mix of browns I placed two strips of bazzill card down each side of the card, this helps to break up the background.
I then selected another stamp that will be used for the centre of the card, in this case a rose.
I used a clear Versamark ink and selected copper embossing powder from my card making supplies as this would work well with the browns I already have on the card.
The image was stamped onto white card and cut into a square using a scalpel and metal edge ruler. You could also use a paper trimmer or for a different shape you could use a Fiskars cutter which cuts all different shapes.
I then used double sided tape to mount the rose image onto the same brown bazzill card as the strips that were placed down the sides of the card.
It is always nice to have a layer of gold or silver when mat and layering to give the image some shine. Because the main colors are browns I dug out some gold from my card making supplies as this works well with browns.
I then added another layer of the bazzill card.
I used peel off stickers to add the wording ‘thank you’ you may decide to make this card as a birthday card or anniversary card so simply change the thank you card wording if that is what you want to do. You could use rub-ons or even hand write your thank you card wording if you have nice neat writing.
The rose image was then adhered to the centre of the thank you card using strong double sided tape.
I felt that the card was a bit flat looking so I decided to introduce another material to give the card some texture. I decided to use ribbon and to attach it to the card I would use eyelets.
I used a cropadile to make the holes in the strips of card at the sides.
I placed the brown ribbon down the sides and secured it in place using the copper eyelets and the Crop-A-Dile to set them in place.
The great thing about this thank you card is that is can be altered slightly and then used for many different occasions. It is relatively simple to make and uses very little from your card making supplies.
