When trying to come up with new and exciting handmade Christmas card ideas it is sometimes worthwhile to forget about tradition altogether.
These days’ many people do not necessarily stick with the traditional red, gold, silver and green Christmas colours and quite often you will see Christmas trees that have purple or even black baubles hanging from them.
New card designs for your handmade Christmas cards opens up a bunch of new ideas and possibilities, and you are less likely to get bored of using the same colours and designs each year.
This Christmas card idea is really easy to do and can be re done in many different colours. I began by inking a large Christmas tree rubber stamp with Versamark ink.
Next, stamp the image firmly onto black card and then sprinkle some silver embossing powder over it.
I embossed the image with a heat gun taking care not to overheat and burn the card. I repeated this process four times as it was my intention to decoupage each layer of the Christmas tree using 3d foam pads.
Use one of the rubber stamped images as a base and leave a border around it. Then proceed to layer the other Christmas tree images over the top using 3d foam.
Once all the layers have been secured and stuck down you will then need to mat and layer using black and silver card.
Once you are happy with the mat and layering fold an A4 piece of black card stock in half to use as your greeting card base. Then position the Christmas tree image onto the card and stick it down using strong double sided tape.
You will then need to use a rubber stamp that has the wording ‘Happy Christmas’ on it. You can use any Christmas card wording you have and if you do not have a rubber stamp with Christmas wording on it you can simply print or hand write the wording.
As with the Christmas tree, I used a Versamark ink pad to stamp the image onto black card stock. Once you have embossed the Christmas wording, follow the same mat and layering theme as before and give the your Christmas card wording a silver and black border.
The ‘Happy Christmas’ wording should then be secured to the bottom of the card using double sided tape.
This handmade Christmas card is quite contemporary as the base of the card is black. This card design is simple and effective and any card maker will be able to make it.
You can always make this card design using different colours if you prefer to stick with more traditional Christmas card ideas.
I love this card idea but cannot find this stamp. What brand is it and where can I buy it?
I am also trying to find this stamp
I also want that stamp but can’t find it.
Vicki, what is the name of the rubber stamp–why don’t you post it?
Hi Guys
So sorry for not coming back to you sooner. This rubber stamp was borrowed from a friend and this card was made nearly two years ago.
I have contacted my friend and she will hopefully come back to me asap to let me know what and where the rubber stamp is and came from.
As soon as I know rest assured you will and hopefully that will be tomorrow. Sorry I can’t help any further with this at the moment
