Make Your Own Christmas Cards – Present Card

You can make your own Christmas cards quite easily and create something personal and beautiful without needing to be an expert card maker.

This handmade Christmas card is very easy to make and perfect for a beginner card maker.

white card stockBegin this card design by folding a piece of white A4 card stock in half. If you want to make this card even larger use an A3 size card.

inking around the edge of a greeting cardOn the edges of the greeting card where they have been cut you can still see a white edge. Use a red ink pad to ink over the edges. This will also soften the edges of your card.

Christmas scrapbook paperI selected this piece of scrapbook paper from my scrapbooking supplies because it had a Christmas theme and would easily be divided into 4 parts which is exactly what I needed.

scrapbooking paper cut into four partsYou will then need to cut four squares of scrapbook paper exactly the same size. Ideally do this using a scalpel and metal ruler however a good quality paper trimmer would also work just as well.

3d foam for a greeting cardUse 3d foam to attach the four squares onto gold metallic card. I did this so that each square had a lovely shinny gold frame.

scrapbooking paperIf you do not have gold card you could also use peel off strips or emboss the edges of the scrapbook paper.

mat and layeringMake sure all four squares are the same size and have the same size frame.

mat and layering scrapbooking paperAfter mat and layering onto the gold card, mat and layer the squares onto dark blue card to tie in with the colors of the scrapbook paper.

ribbon around a handmade cardNext, place a large bow around the entire card to make it look like a present. Put a large sticky dot behind the bow to hold it in place and ensure it does not come undone.

peel off stickersOnce the bow was in place I felt the present card was still looking a little dull so I decided to add some peel off stickers around the edge. Please note, ideally this should be done before the bow has be tied but I am a sucker for adding additional bits and bobs along the way.

What you are left with is a very easy to make card that if you are looking to make your own Christmas cards, you don’t have to be a professional card maker to do.

This card is perfect for a beginner to make when they are struggling to think of suitable Christmas card ideas.
