Anna Griffin Handmade Card - Step By Step

picture of a folded blank card
This handmade card is quite large. I used an A3 size piece of cardstock which I folded in half. You can either score the card before folding or use a ruler and bone tool.

scrapbook paper

I used a sheet of 12 x 12 Anna Griffin scrapbook paper to make this card. You will also need a smaller version of the same paper from a 6 x 6 size pad.

cutting paper to size

The 12 x 12 scrapbook paper was used to cover the whole front of the card. The scrapbook paper needs to be cut to the correct size. I simply used the card to draw around so that the paper was the same size.

 materials to make handmade card

Before I attached the paper to the card I needed to emboss around the edge of the paper to make it provide a frame. You will need gold embossing powder, an embossing pen and a heat gun.

embossing pen

Use the embossing pen to mark all around the edge of the paper. I would recommend you do this in stages as the paper is large and the embossing ink may dry before you have applied the embossing powder.

 embossing powder

Sprinkle the gold embossing powder around the edges so that it covers where you have placed the embossing ink.

heat embossing

Then use the heat gun to heat the edges of your scrapbook paper.

Once the edges have been embossed use double sided tape to attach the scrapbook paper to the front of the card

You will then need to mount the 6 x 6 piece of matching paper onto some gold card

Use 3D foam pads to attach the 6 x 6 matching scrapbook paper to the front of the card.

 glitter glue

I then used stickles glitter glue to make the flowers more decorative

You could also use dry glitter by applying some glue then sprinkling the glitter over the glue. Personally I find this can be a little messy which is why I tend to use glue that already has the glitter in it.

 name plate with nothing on

For the name plate I used was cut from a sizzix machine, however it is very easy to make your own using a hole punch or eyelet setter to make the holes.

 embossed name plate

Using the same gold embossing powder, emboss the name plate so that it matches the edges of the paper

Place the name plate onto some paper and use peel offs for the wording ‘happy birthday’ or whatever the occasion might is.

 name plate with ribbon

I then attached eyelets to the holes to stop any ripping and attached some ribbon for embellishment. Here I have used blue ribbon but any colour will be fine as long at it is in keeping with the paper.

Next, simply stick the name plate onto the card. You can then attach some further embellishments such as the age and the name of the person who the card is for. This card can be repeated over and over again just as long as you have both a 12 x 12 and 6 x 6 matching scrapbook paper.

That’s it. You now have a perfect way of making handmade personalised birthday cards.
